Colten St. Clair to stay in Fargo

I talked to Colten St. Clair and found out this news...

Colten St. Clair has decided to stick around in Fargo for another year to avoid the logjam at the University of North Dakota.  UND returns many of their players from 2009-10 and it was expected that St. Clair would see limited ice time with the Fighting Sioux.  With that, St. Clair has decided to stick it out one more year with the Force.

This is great news for Fargo as they returned few from 2009-10.  It's also great news for Colten in some aspect as he will get ice time and a better chance in the NHL Draft by staying in Fargo for another season.  Colten is draft eligible in 2011 so sitting on the bench for UND wouldn't make much sense if he wanted a shot at being drafted.  I think this move will benefit both St. Clair and the Force for 2010-11 and the Sioux will get a more experienced player when he leaves for UND in 2011-12.

  2. How has bad info. He may not be going to UND but I would not bank on him being back in Fargo.

  3. I talked to Colten St. Clair himself and he said he would be back in Fargo for another year.

  4. PS - If anyone has bad info it's me because I was the one to let the Twitter world know about St. Clair coming back...and Tim wrote his article after.

  5. Is he 100% for sure coming back? It does'nt sound ike sparky thinks so.

  6. I asked "Are you going to UND next year?"

He replied "No I'm going to play for the Force one more year."

  7. So whats the deal with Leitner? I've still seen some question marks with him coming back to Fargo.

  8. Yeah I hope Leitner comes to Mankato!! He is prolly our best recruit……hope he gets everything done!

  9. I was wrong. At this point, Colton will be coming back to Fargo. The BCHL options he was considering did not work out. Force Blogger definitely out-scooped me here!!

  10. In fact, I do not have bad info when I get it directly from the Fargo Force front office. As of now, he is coming back to Fargo. Does he want to be there? Not really. BCHL didn't work out, but he could be traded. However, as of now he is going to be back in Fargo. I'm sorry but the information I get from the Force front office is official.

  11. Leitner has zero chance of coming back to Fargo, however he may not be in Mankato. Canada is a real option for him.

  12. Sounds like to me is that St. Clair is using the Force as a crutch so he will have somewhere to play if everything else falls through, that is @#%^^* if you ask me. If i were the coach i would get soe kind of a trade deal for him. It does'nt sound like he wants to play here anyway.

  13. But let's not forget who got the St. Clair info first by going directly to the source - Colten himself.

    Yours truly,
    Force Blogger :D

  14. True, but Colten also originally said he was going to UND. Decisions aren't always in the kid's hands.

  15. I got one for you to check out. Apparently Oleg got drafted by the Belarus Army and will not return.

Tim: I tip for the wise in your business. The front office of a Junior team lies all the time. It is a constant game to move and or protect players. They should be your LAST source of information. I like Blogger's source better...the person himself.

  16. Sparky,

I reported on the Oleg story on Twitter and it is 100% correct true and is a shame.

I know how the front office works, but when they are the ones running my articles, that is who I go to.

In the case of Colten, he was telling everyone UND because that is what he wanted. UND didn't agree. I bet he gets traded.

No problem. But I think that what happened as it relates to St. Clair was more a function of Johnson begging Hakstol to have him come back. If he wanted to go to Penticton, It would have happened overnight. UND has to stay neutral on what league they think is better so I deduct from this that Hakstol thinks Johnson is terrible a developing players (don't confuse that with winning because he wins) which he concluded from the fact that Johnson was in Grand Forks most every monday and tuesday (instead of practice) during the year and ran into him to many times at old man hockey at 12:00 noon on fridays (instead of morning skate)....that information comes from a GREAT source:)

  18. Sparky, i dont think Johnson would hold Colten back from taking the next step in his hockey career for one. And secondly, you always start your arguments with( i think)like anybody else does but you insist that you are right all the time. If you have such a "great source" then why do you always say, (i think). If Johnson cant develop players his kid probably would'nt be that good then, im sure he had some part in that.

  19. Colten had more goals and almost as many points in his first year with the force playing less minutes. That is a red flag in my book as far as development goes. Johnson has had NOTHING to do with Colten's development. That is the issue. Think about it, Why would he even consider the BC if everyone was happy with his development in Fargo? I THINK that it is a reasonable conclusion to come up with. Also it widely known that Hakstol and Johnson do not like each other. That is a FACT.

  20. Some players have on and off seasons. We'll see what happens this season. Dean Blais is a hell of a coach, so im not disagreeing with you totally on the coaching. But i dont think Johnson would try to hold Colten back.

  21. Fair enough. I respect your opinion.

  22. I find it interesting that you all seem to know and speak with the coaches, players, and front office, yet you all have different information. I enjoy all the speculation.
Thanks for the off ice entertainment.

  23. Hi all, just found the blog and saw the note about Oleg. I just spoke with him this morning and he laughed at the Army thing and said he will be back in Fargo next month for try-outs and the season. Too funny!

  24. Tim:

So much for your source being 100% true! Ouch..according to goalie mom...Oleg is coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I see that. When I get an email with a quote from Coach Johnson, that is what I go by. I have also spoken to two players about it. I find those sources plenty good by my book.

  26. We'll see who's back come the end of July. It is funny watching you guys go back and forth about who has a better source.

  27. blades is right...right now almost everything is speculation until Johnson picks the team. I'm sure there will be a lot of surprises at tryouts and some will make the cut and others won't. The kids can say stuff but usually a lot can happen in the months leading up to the season. Right now...everything is just speculation.

  28. What happened to forcehockey.com??

  29. Good question...I've tried to get on for a few days now too!

  30. Force Blogger, YOU are correct with your 5:10 statement. Lots of things will change between now and October, let alone until February when the trade deadline is over. For now, I DO know who is coming to try outs and Oleg will be here. Hope to see you all there

Oleg Yevenko is in fact coming back to Fargo. Thanks to goaliemom4ever for the heads up. He and the Force staff made the official announcement today. I'm told there was a snag with Belarus Army possibility and coach Johnson was worried it was going to be a big deal and it wasn't. So that is great news for the Force! Thanks again for goaliemom on the advanced information!

  32. Sounds like goaliemom has the source for good info. Maybe she should be the lead blogger. haha
